Pet Spay & Neuter in Round Rock, TX
A Healthy Choice for Your Pet and Our Community
At Vista Vet Animal Hospital & Pet Lodge, spay and neuter surgeries have been among our most common procedures since we opened in 2019. With modern anesthesia, careful monitoring, and attentive recovery care, we treat every patient like family from drop-off to pick-up.
What Are Spaying and Neutering?
• Spaying is the surgical removal of a female pet’s reproductive organs. It prevents heat cycles and pregnancy.
• Neutering is the surgical removal of a male pet’s testicles. It prevents breeding and reduces hormone-driven behaviors.
Both procedures are performed under general anesthesia, so your pet sleeps comfortably and feels no pain during surgery.

Benefits of Spaying and Neutering
- Reduces the risk of uterine infections and mammary tumors in females
- Eliminates the risk of testicular cancer and lowers the risk of prostate problems in males
- Decreases roaming, marking, and certain aggressive behaviors
- Prevents unplanned litters and helps reduce pet overpopulation
When Should My Pet Be Spayed or Neutered?
Your Pet’s Safety Comes First

• Pain management before, during, and after surgery

Preparing for Surgery & Recovery at Home
Before Surgery
We minimize anesthesia risk with:
- Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to check internal organ health
- Anesthesia protocols tailored to your pet’s age, breed, and medical history
- Continuous monitoring of heart rate, oxygen levels, blood pressure, and temperature
- Skilled veterinary technicians with your pet throughout the procedure
- Pain management before, during, and after surgery
After Surgery
- Give pain medications exactly as directed
- Keep your pet calm and limit running, jumping, and rough play while the incision heals
- Use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking or chewing at the incision
- No baths or swimming until your recheck
- Check the incision daily and call us if you notice redness, swelling, discharge, or your pet seems lethargic or stops eating
Our team will send you home with written aftercare instructions and is always happy to answer questions.
Add a Microchip While Your Pet Is Asleep
Many pet parents choose to microchip during a spay or neuter, since your pet is already under anesthesia. Ask us about adding this simple, lifelong form of identification.
